Match Preview – Stoke vs Spurs

Spurs will be brimming with confidence after an emphatic victory over league champions Chelsea, putting an end to a 28-year hoodoo at Stamford Bridge. The Lilywhites are back on the road again this week and travel to the West Midlands to battle Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

Spurs have put 8 points between the top four and Chelsea, and are currently on a streak of 13 games undefeated in the Premier League. However, Stoke City are in a desperate relegation battle for survival and will throw all the intensity that they can muster at Spurs in order to clinch those much-needed points. Typically, the bet365 is not an easy stadium to go to; Stoke fans know how to make noise, Tottenham Hotspur most certainly have their work cut out for them.

The last time these two teams met Spurs beat Stoke 5 goals to 1. In fact, the last four times Spurs have played Stoke, they have managed to score four or more goals. Harry Kane scored in all four games.

Injuries and Team News

For Stoke, Charlie Adam’s suspension will continue following his dismissal at Everton. Kurt Zouma missed the clash against Arsenal due to his knee injury but will undergo an assessment prior to the game on Saturday. Maxim Choup-Moting will most likely have to miss the fixture through injury. Ibrahim Afelly will likely not play again during this season as a result of internal disciplinary reasons.

Konstantinos Stafylidis broke his ribs whilst out on international duty and therefore will not feature. In lighter news, Steven Ireland will be available for selection again after a long-term injury.

For Tottenham Hotspur, Harry Winks is still recovering from an injury that has unfortunately seen the youngster on the sidelines for far too long. Despite playing the full 90 minutes for Belgium, Toby Alderweireld wasn’t even on the bench against Chelsea: it’s very unlikely he will feature in this game, or during this season at all.

To the delightful surprise of all the Spurs fans, Harry Kane made a return to action sooner than expected. When he came on, he looked solid so there is no reason not to expect an appearance on the weekend.

Form

Tottenham Hotspur are currently 4th in the Premier League with 64 points. They are two points Liverpool with a game in hand of them. They have 8 points of breathing space between themselves and Chelsea in 5th; they remain four points behind Man Utd in 2nd.

Stoke are firmly in the relegation battle sitting 19th in the Premier League table. They have 27 points and are two points from safety: Crystal Palace are 17th with 30 points.

The Match will kick off at 3pm on Saturday the 7th of April at the bet365 Stadium. The game will not be televised on British TV.

Our Prediction

Stoke City 1:3 Tottenham Hotspur

As Spurs are in incredible form in the Premier League, not to mention the return of Harry Kane, we predict that Spurs will add another victory to their impressive repertoire. Stoke will battle hard, but the confidence of the Spurs team will be enough to unravel the out of form Stoke side.
